New joint venture to address Sheffield City Region housing shortfall appoints project lead
Andy Beattie has been appointed as Project Homes Director of Forge New Homes, a new partnership between five Sheffield housing providers that is aiming to address the shortfall in housing.
Andy has over 19 years of experience working in a range of development, regeneration, investment and housing roles in the North West and Yorkshire regions. He joins Forge New Homes from Sigma Capital where, as Regional Development Director he was responsible for delivering traditional family homes and low-rise apartments in the Build to Rent sector and spearheading the company’s growth into Yorkshire.
Andy will play a leading role in driving the new joint venture between Together Housing Association, South Yorkshire Housing Association, Great Places Housing Group, Yorkshire Housing and the Guinness Partnership.
The partnership is looking to invest to acquire sites for new housing development on a mixed tenure, commercial basis. It will also look to access sources of public sector grant funding, where available, and will raise funds to finance new housing developments in the City Region, these include:
- South Yorkshire – Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley;
- Derbyshire – Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover and Derbyshire Dales;
- Nottinghamshire – Bassetlaw.
The new entrant to the Sheffield City Region housing market will work collaboratively with the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority and the nine local authorities in the region to deliver homes across all nine districts to meet the needs of the local communities. The company initially aims to develop at least 300 new homes each year but plans to grow quickly to at least 500 new homes annually.
Andy Beattie said:
“I really look forward to taking the opportunity to lead this exciting new venture. I hope to use my experience and industry insight to help tackle the challenges that the area faces and provide much-needed new homes in the Sheffield City Region.”
Commenting on Andy’s appointment, Steve Close, Chief Executive of Together Housing and Chair of Forge New Homes, said:
“We are really excited to welcome Andy on board. He brings with him 19 years of experience in the sector and an impressive track record in successfully delivering a wide range of development and regeneration projects. He will play a pivotal role in driving forward this new partnership that will deliver new homes that are so urgently needed in the City Region.
“The support for the partnership by the Combined Authority has been great and we have a real opportunity to help address the region’s housing needs beyond our affordable activity. This innovative and collaborative approach is also aligned to our social purpose and we are looking forward to getting on with construction and really making a difference.”
Forge New Homes is also keen to work in partnership with other public and private sector organisations to participate in project delivery. Steve Close continues:
“We would welcome contact and discussions with any public or private sector organisation that can help us to access sites or otherwise help us with the delivery of new homes”.
